Hair System Care & Maintenance

A consistent care routine helps keep your hair system looking natural and manageable. Learn the essentials of gentle washing, conditioning, styling and storage, and always follow the instructions supplied with your system and attachment products.

Before You Begin

Start by confirming your hair system’s hair type, base material and attachment method. Follow your supplier’s care instructions and check that each shampoo, conditioner, styling product and adhesive remover is suitable for your particular system. If you’re unsure, ask for guidance before using a new product.

Gentle Washing

Use cool or lukewarm water and a shampoo suitable for your hair system. Work the shampoo gently through the hair without scrubbing, twisting or bunching it together, then rinse thoroughly. Follow your supplier’s washing schedule and your adhesive manufacturer’s instructions about when washing is safe after attachment.

Conditioning and Moisture

Use a conditioner recommended for your hair system, applying it mainly to the mid-lengths and ends. Keep it away from the base, knots and attachment areas unless your supplier specifically advises otherwise. Follow the product’s instructions for how much to use, how long to leave it on and whether to rinse it out.

Drying and Detangling

Gently blot excess water with a soft towel without rubbing, twisting or wringing the hair. Allow the system to air-dry where practical. Use a suitable wide-tooth comb and work through tangles gently, starting at the ends and gradually moving upwards. Follow your supplier’s guidance on whether to detangle your particular hair type damp or dry.

Styling and Heat

Choose styling products suitable for your system and use them sparingly. Before using a hairdryer, straightener or curling tool, confirm whether your hair type tolerates heat and follow the supplier’s temperature limits. If heat styling is not approved, use heat-free styling methods. Avoid pulling firmly on the hair or base while styling.

Storage Between Wears

When your system is removed, make sure the hair and base are fully dry before storing it. Use a clean, suitable stand or storage form that supports the base without stretching it. Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat and dust, and avoid folding or crushing it. Follow your supplier’s instructions for longer-term storage.

Attachment Checks and Removal

Check your attachment regularly for lifting or loosening, and follow the maintenance schedule recommended for your system and adhesive. For bonded systems, use a compatible adhesive remover as directed and allow the bond to release before gently removing the base. Never pull or peel the system away by force. If you’re unsure how to remove or reattach it, ask your supplier or fitter for guidance.
